Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that Los Angeles Police Sergeant Ruby Aguirre has been charged with driving recklessly while on duty and seriously injuring a motorist in South Los Angeles.

“Sworn police officers have a responsibility to obey all laws, particularly when they are on the job and in uniform,” District Attorney Gascón said. “Fortunately, no one died in this instance but it will leave an indelible mark on the victim. My office’s Bureau of Victim Services is available to provide needed services or resources to help the victim during her recovery.”

Aguirre (dob 8/9/85) was charged in case 3CJ00901 with one misdemeanor count of reckless driving causing injury. Her arraignment is set for April 17 in Department 48 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On May 6, 2021, Sergeant Aguirre was responding to a call of a vehicle pursuit when she allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Western Avenue and struck a sedan. The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
