A Los Angeles Police Department officer has been charged with attempted murder for an alleged attack on his estranged wife, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Deputy District Attorney Sam Ahmadpour said Jose Robert Figueroa (dob 11/12/84) was charged yesterday in case YA090345 with attempted murder, injuring a spouse with the added allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury and making criminal threats.

Figueroa’s bail was set at $2.5 million. A bail review hearing is scheduled for tomorrow and arraignment was continued until June 4 in Department 5 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Inglewood Branch.

On May 18, Figueroa went to his estranged wife’s Inglewood apartment where he threatened to kill her and choked her until she passed out, Ahmadpour said. When she awoke she was tied up, the prosecutor added.

If convicted of all charges he faces a life sentence.

The case is being investigated by the Inglewood Police Department.
