A motorist previously charged with severely injuring two men in a DUI crash and then fleeing the scene has now been charged with murder for the death of one of the victims, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Charlette Anne Colton (dob 1/12/70) of Lakewood faces one felony count each of murder and gross vehicular manslaughter in addition to one count each of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury within 10 years of another DUI offense, driving with a .08% blood alcohol content causing injury within 10 years of another DUI offense and hit-and-run driving resulting in death or serious injury to another person.

Case NA114172 includes allegations that Colton inflicted great bodily injury, her blood alcohol concentration was .20% or more and she was convicted of a DUI in 2012.

Arraignment on the amended complaint was scheduled today but continued to April 28 in Department S01 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Long Beach Branch.

On March 24, Colton allegedly crashed her minivan into a car, crushing one victim’s leg and severely injuring a pedestrian on Del Amo Boulevard near Locust Avenue, prosecutors said. The defendant is charged with then fleeing the scene, prosecutors added.

The pedestrian, Bryan Bogan, 61, died as a result of his injuries on April 4.

If convicted as charged, Colton faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison. Bail is now set at $2 million.

The case remains under investigation by the Long Beach Police Department.
