A 23-year-old woman accused of trying to kill her ex-boyfriend pleaded no contest today to one count of attempted murder, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Sandra Jimenez said Jerica Mae Caballes of La Mirada also admitted causing great bodily injury and was immediately sentenced to 13 years in state prison.

On March 26, Caballes, along with two unknown males, broke into the victim’s Pomona apartment and the ex-boyfriend was shot in the face, the prosecutor said. The domestic violence victim survived the attack.

The next day, police arrested the defendant in connection with the shooting.

Case KA109378 was investigated by the Pomona Police Department.
