An Inglewood man was found guilty today by a jury of fatally shooting his wife of approximately 11 years in front of their four young children, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Andy Steve Valadez, 38, was convicted of one count each of murder, criminal threats and child abuse.

Deputy District Attorney Linda Kwon said the jury also found true allegations that the defendant personally used a firearm in the commission of the three counts.

Sentencing is scheduled on March 4 in Department G of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Torrance Branch. Valadez faces 40 years to life in state prison.

The defendant shot Sandra Valadez, 32, in the head at their residence on Nov. 11, 2015, according to evidence presented at the trial. The victim’s 63-year-old aunt ran into the residence when she heard the shots and found the victim and the children. The aunt struggled over the gun with the defendant after he threatened to kill them, the prosecutor said.

The Inglewood Police Department investigated case YA093307.
