A former nurse’s assistant was sentenced today to seven years in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life for sexually abusing female patients at a Tarzana hospital 14 years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Kelly Kraetsch said Ramón Eduardo Rodas Gaspar, 50, pleaded no contest on June 7 to five felony counts: four counts of sexual battery by fraud and one count of sexual penetration of a victim unconscious of the nature of the act.

Gaspar sexually assaulted eight patients under his care at Tarzana Medical Center between 2005 and 2006. He was charged in 2006 but soon after fled the country.

Gaspar was arrested in Guatemala on Feb. 13, 2017, and extradited back to Los Angeles that summer.

Case LA052625 was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, West Valley Station.
