A 31-year-old former YMCA employee convicted of sexually molesting two young girls was sentenced today to state prison, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Matthew Aidan Pooley (dob 6/5/83) of San Pedro pleaded no contest today to two felony counts of lewd act upon a child in case YA090848.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark S. Arnold immediately sentenced Pooley to 10 years in state prison. Additionally, the judge ordered the defendant to register as a sex offender for life.

Deputy District Attorney Sam Ahmadpour, who prosecuted the case, said Pooley sexually abused two girls in separate counties.

Earlier this year, a 4-year-old girl revealed that she had been sexually assaulted in July by the defendant while she was at a YMCA in Torrance, the prosecutor said.

Authorities were alerted about the victim’s claim and immediately began an investigation.

Detectives learned that the defendant’s female family member reported that he also sexually molested her in 2002 at a Kern County home when she was 7 years old.

Pooley was apprehended on July 30 and charged the next day. He has remained in custody on $200,000 bail.

The case was investigated by the Torrance Police Department.
