A 23-year-old man was convicted today of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred nearly two years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Dylan Shane Rutherford of Simi Valley pleaded no contest to one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Deputy District Attorney Matthew Vodnoy said Rutherford was immediately sentenced to 10 years in state prison.

On Oct. 7 2016, the defendant was driving under the influence of alcohol when he ran through a red light on De Soto Avenue and Chatsworth Street, hitting a truck. The victim’s vehicle overturned and crashed into a street light, the prosecutor said.

The victims in the truck, Hector Castro, 44, and Ernesto Castro, 42, were both thrown from the vehicle and killed, the prosecutor added.

Case PA087462 was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Valley Traffic Division.
