May 31, 2019: CORRECTION: Man Charged With Trying to Kidnap Teen in Torrance

A man was charged today with trying to kidnap a 15-year-old girl walking home from school in Torrance, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Felipe Vela said Jhony Adalberto Granados-Lopez (dob 2/25/91) of Los Angeles faces one count each of attempted kidnapping and possession of child or youth pornography.

The defendant pleaded not guilty today and is scheduled to return for a preliminary hearing setting on June 14 in Department 8 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Torrance Branch.

On May 22, Granados-Lopez allegedly tried to force the teen victim into his vehicle at knife point near Spencer Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, the prosecutor said. The girl managed to break loose and get help, the prosecutor added.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of more than five years in state prison. Bail is set at $150,000.

Case YA100263 remains under investigation by the Torrance Police Department.
