A 69-year-old man has been found guilty of killing his wife of more than 40 years when she served him with divorce papers, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Deputy District Attorney Abigail Baron said Benjamin Christino Ramirez (dob 8/12/50) of Carson was convicted yesterday of one count of first-degree murder with allegations of using a handgun.

Sentencing is scheduled on Oct. 1 in Department Q of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Compton Branch. Ramirez faces 50 years to life in state prison.

On Oct. 5, 2018, Fely Ramirez, 67, served her husband with divorce papers and remained at their home to talk, the prosecutor said. The defendant shot the victim in the chest and head and left the home, according to evidence presented at the trial. Her family discovered her body later that day.

Case TA147299 was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
