A 48-year-old man accused of sexually molesting a 10-year-old girl was charged today, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Victor Martinez (dob 6/28/66) of Azusa was charged with six felony counts: sexual intercourse or sodomy with child 10 years old or younger, sodomy by use of force-victim under age 14, sexual penetration by foreign object, sodomy of person under 14 with 10 years difference, dissuading a witness from reporting a crime and lewd act upon a child in case KA108117.

Martinez was scheduled to be arraigned today, but the court appearance was continued to Oct. 27 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Pomona in Department N.

Deputy District Attorney Babette Huley, who is prosecuting the case, said Martinez was a friend of the victim’s family.

On Oct. 20, the victim went with Martinez in his car to get some food. During the car ride, Martinez reportedly took the girl to a parking lot and sexually molested her. After the attack, Martinez ordered the girl not to tell anyone what happened, the prosecutor said.

Two days later, the girl told her mother about the sexual assault and authorities were called. During the investigation, law enforcement learned Martinez had previously molested the girl, the prosecutor added.

Soon after, law enforcement located the defendant and he was arrested. Martinez is currently being held on $1.2 million bail.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of 37 years to life in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Azusa Police Department.
