A 51-year-old man was charged today with killing a man and leaving the victim’s body in a backyard, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Heping Gan (dob 3/13/66) of Alhambra has been charged murder in case GA102782. The felony complaint includes a special allegation that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a pipe, during the commission of the murder.

Gan also has been charged with three other felony counts in connection with a domestic dispute: forcible oral copulation; criminal threats; and injuring a spouse, cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend or child’s parent.

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Department 5 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Alhambra Branch. Prosecutors are asking that bail be set at $2.17 million.

Deputy District Attorney Yoobin Kang Hernandez is assigned to the case.

On Jan. 25, Gan allegedly killed Jinguo Jiang, 55, in the 1200 block of South Sierra Vista Avenue in Alhambra, prosecutors said. The defendant was taken into custody soon after the discovery of the victim’s body.

If convicted as charged, Gan faces a maximum possible punishment of life in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
