Kathryn
E. Showers is one of the top trainers in the Los Angeles County
District Attorney’s Office. She has coordinated and conducted
training for prosecutors, law enforcement officers and private
security managers on a range of topics, including identity theft,
network intrusions, search warrants, digital and electronic
evidence, elder abuse, crime victim restitution issues, victim
services and victim impact statements.
Showers has led the High Technology Crime Division since 2006. In this capacity,
she oversees the prosecution of cases involving: identity theft; computer
crimes; online child exploitation; money laundering using electronic banking
networks; software piracy; theft and resale of telecommunication services,
computer hardware and software; remarking and counterfeiting of computer
hardware and software; and theft of trade secrets.
In 2007, the District Attorney’s Office filed and prosecuted 3,288 cases
involving high technology crimes. Of these, 1,536 cases involved identity
theft.
Showers has been as a deputy district attorney for Los Angeles
County since 1987. She has extensive experience in a number of units
throughout the District Attorney’s Office and spent two years as
program director of the Victim Witness Assistance Program.
Her professional activities include participation with the Victim Witness
Coordinating Council, the Constitutional Rights Foundation’s Mock Trial
Competition and the District Attorney’s Project L.E.A.D. crime prevention
program. Showers has earned a B.A. in classics, an M.A. in interdisciplinary archaeology,
an M.L.S. in library & information systems and a J.D.
