Kimberly Leong
Special Assistant, Victim-Witness Assistance Program
Kimberly Leong started with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in
1981 as a victim advocate in the Victim-Witness Assistance Program. In 1989, she
became a deputy district attorney. As a prosecutor, Leong has been able to
effectively integrate her background in victim advocacy in each criminal case
she has prosecuted at trial. From 2003 to 2005, Leong was assigned to the Elder
Abuse Section where she prosecuted cases involving physical abuse, neglect,
annuity scams and fiduciary abuse of elder victims who lacked mental capacity
due to dementia.
Leong has served as special assistant to the Victim-Witness Assistance Program
since 2005. In her current position, Leong has contributed to the development of
the Victim-Witness Assistance Program Elder Abuse Advocacy and Outreach Program,
which provides services to senior citizens and dependent adults who are victims
of physical abuse, neglect and financial abuse.
For the past two years, Leong has organized a training symposium on crimes
against elders and dependent adults. This annual training symposium, sponsored
by the Victim-Witness Assistance Elder Abuse Advocacy and Outreach Program, has
assembled leading experts in the field who assist elders and dependent adults.
Leong has trained deputy district attorneys on victim advocacy. Leong is a
member of the Los Angeles County Elder Abuse Forensic Center and the Elder Abuse
Prevention Task Force.
She is a graduate of Occidental College and Loyola Law School and has worked as
a private attorney.
