Los Angeles
County District Attorney Steve Cooley established the
Criminal Justice Institute (CJI) in 2007 to provide high-quality
training opportunities to law enforcement professionals through his
staff of nationally recognized experts.
CJI serves as a regional training
center to assist prosecutors, peace officers and other interested
parties by offering
practical training programs and materials to enhance the
investigation and prosecution of criminal cases.
The Los Angeles County District
Attorney’s Office has an established reputation for providing some
of the nation’s best trainers in specialties such as DNA evidence,
asset forfeiture law, foreign extradition and animal cruelty cases.
Through CJI, the Office shares the
legal knowledge and experience of its deputy district attorneys and
investigators with law enforcement officers. CJI trainers bring
together top criminal law practitioners and scholars to advance
public safety.
CJI has partnered with various local,
state and federal agencies and organizations to meet current
training needs, both basic and advanced.
Thousands already have completed CJI
seminars on such cutting-edge issues as high-tech crime, search and
seizure and the prevention of elder abuse and truancy.
CJI is quickly becoming recognized as
a leading source of premier continuing education and professional
development for law enforcement and other criminal justice system
professionals.
